Like in the first rays at dawn when one sees hopes of another new and fresh day,. women who had undergone family planning operation and lost their children to the tsunami last year, now hope to become mothers once again after Agnes, who lost all her children to the tsunami, gave birth to female child on Dec.19, 2005. The was possible after Micro Surgical Reversal of Sterilisation (MSRS), a reversal surgery procedure, was performed on the 26-year-old woman from Kottilpadu by gynaecologists of GPH

As many as 16 such women who lost their children to tsunami have undergone MSRS in the hospital free of cost.

FIRST IN KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT:

Agnes in the first in Kanyakumari to give birth following the MSRS. In her family only she and her husband Raj survived the tsunami and they lost their children Pramoth (9), Pradeepa (7) Pradiksha (4) and Ranjitha (2)

District Collector Sunil Paliwal, who visited the mother and the new born at the hospital, informed that under the Chief Minister's special scheme for the tsunami affected, women. who lost their children will be extended an assistance of Rs 25,000 each to undergo MSRS. The government has so far sanctioned Rs 1.7 takn to eight beneficiaries under the scheme, and in the second phase another seven women will be extended maternity assistance.
